Power Pocket

This drill is at-home friendly!

The "power pocket" is the small window near your chest where the disc accelerates hardest right before release. Many players lose distance because they don't accelerate cleanly through this zone — the disc slows down, drifts away from the body, or gets "cast" out early. This drill trains players to feel where that pocket is and to accelerate explosively through it every time, which is often the single biggest technical fix for adding sudden, noticeable distance.

How to do it

  1. Start with the disc held at your chest, roughly at "pec height" on your throwing side, elbow bent close to the body.
  2. Without much backswing at all, imagine you are trying to throw a punch or "elbow" someone standing directly on your target line.
  3. Drive your elbow toward that imaginary target, and as your elbow reaches (and briefly stops near) full extension, let your forearm and wrist snap the disc out and away — this is the "hit."
  4. The lower arm should feel like it's whipping outward after the elbow leads the way, not the whole arm moving together as one rigid unit.

3 sets of 12 reps with a putter or mid-range. This is best used as a technical correction drill for 2–3 weeks whenever a player's distance plateaus or their releases start feeling "mushy" or underpowered. Also can do at home without throwing.
